Frequently asked questions

No. The embed is lightweight and loads lazily, and comments are served from our servers, so your server isn't affected.

No. Visitors can comment as guests. You can also let your logged-in users comment with Single Sign-On.

When someone posts a comment, your rules run first. If the comment is still published after that, it goes to the spam detection service you picked, Akismet or FortGuard. Spam is hidden from the public. It's checked again when an author edits a published comment, and skipped for moderators and trusted users. See the spam detection docs.

Akismet is the default. It uses machine learning, and it learns from the comments you mark as spam or not spam. FortGuard is our own service. It uses LLMs to judge content, and it can also flag comments by language, country (from the IP address) or sentiment. A check costs 10 credits with Akismet and 20 with FortGuard.

Not forever. Each user earns reputation as their comments get published, and comments from users with a reputation of 20 or more skip spam detection. If a moderator marks a comment as spam, the reputation resets to 0.

Yes. Set up rules once and they run on every comment. For example, you can keep comments with links pending for review, or delete comments that get too many flags.
